HOBC Caregiver Guides

Caring for a loved one who is seriously ill may be the most challenging and the most rewarding thing you will ever do. When an illness advances and needs increase, Hospice of Broward County is here to support, educate and train you to meet those needs.

Our two caregiver guides below provide much-needed information on daily care and end-of-life care, respectively.

A Caregiving Journey: A How-to Guide for Caregivers

Hospice of Broward County has designed A Caregiving Journey to guide you in anticipating and handling everyday caregiving tasks and situations. This handbook also helps you to identify changes that should be reported to your healthcare provider.

Topics include: activities of daily living, body positioning, using the bathroom, nutrition, oxygen therapy, range of motion, suctioning and helping the unconscious patient.

Your Hospice of Broward County nurse and CNA are eager to teach you how to perform any of these techniques and help you adapt them to meet your loved one’s needs.

The goal is to prepare you to help your loved one accomplish this transition with support, understanding and ease.

Topics include: physical emotional-spiritual signs and symptoms of approaching death, and what happens when death occurs.
